A one year six months old toddler, of Libuyu Township in Livingstone has died after falling in a well.
Judith Muduli, 24 of Libuyu Township went to draw water at the well and discovered the body of a toddler, whom she identified as Isaac Namaziba, aged one year and six months.
Ms. Muduli then informed the toddler’s mother Stella Munkala, and members of the community who helped to retrieve the baby and rushed him to Libuyu clinic where he was pronounced dead.
Police spokesperson Esther Katongo confirmed the development in a statement.
Ms. Katongo said the mother to the deceased toddler reported the matter to police, adding that the suspected drowning occurred on Tuesday between 12:00 and 15:30 hours.
“Acting on the report, police visited the crime scene and discovered that it was a well, full of water with a depth of about two and a half meters,” Ms. Katongo said. The body of the deceased boy is currently in Batoka Hospital mortuary awaiting an autopsy to ascertain the cause of death.
