‘My wife drinks too much’
MARY PHIRI writes A 31-year-old man of Chipulukusu Township in Ndola has narrated before the court how his wife’s drinking behaviour has contributed to the breakdown of their marriage. Ken Bunda said this in defence in a divorce case initiated by his wife Priscovia Musenga 28 of the same township. The case came before Chipulukusu Local Court presiding, magistrate Nsama Nsofu, sitting with Juliet Bwalya. Bunda complained before the court that his wife was the reason why their marriage was on rocks because of her bad drinking habits. “She drinks too much, and have tried reasoning with her on many occasions but she doesn’t change, and if she really wants us to divorce then it’s fine so that she can have all the freedom she wants, ” he said. But Musenga in her testimony told the court that the two got married in 2018 when Bunda paid k100 as dowry and together had one child. She told the court that her husband was a jealous man who only wanted her to stay home and not do anything. Musenga said when she started doing a small business at home, he got upset and wanted her to stop adding that other men would be seeing her. “I am a very productive woman, I cannot just be staying home and not doing anything. He just can’t understand, he insults and beats me up in the presence of people I am fed up, I just want this marriage to end,” she insisted. She added that he did not give her respect and would say anything he wanted even when her relatives were around. In passing judgment, the court granted divorce with no compensation and ordered the couple to share what they acquired together. The court further told Bunda to support his child with K300 as monthly support and provide for all basic needs. The Sun
