Mweetwa calls on fans to stick to COVID-19 rules
MUKWIMA CHILALA writes   FORMER Zambia National Soccer team striker Nchimunya Mweetwa has echoed calls by FIFA president Gianni Infantino for soccer players and fans to continue adhering to COVID-19 regulations by staying home and observing social distancing. Mweetwa noted that despite that pandemic having not been spreading at a faster rate in Zambia , like was the case in Europe and the US, there was need for Zambians to continue taking pre cautionary measures serious . The Safe Inclusive Sport ambassador said that he was alive to the fact it was a difficult thing for an athlete to stay off sport without actively playing. Mweetwa, however, said just that life was much more important than playing football and any other sport as that could be done once the pandemic was over. “Ever since Covid19 started Asia, Europe and America have seen the worst of it, the African continent has not been spared from the virus but it is worrying that the infection rate are still low, thank God for that but we should not be complacent,” Mweetwa said . “We don’t know when it’s going to explode and what will happen, that is why the time to act is now,” he said Mweetwa noted that it was not the responsibility of the government leadership alone to confront the pandemic but ordinary people needed to take part by taking necessary measure. “If we wait for the pandemic to explode it will be too late to prevent it and many lives could have been lost by then,” he said. We all have to be responsible citizens of our countries and adhere to the preventive measures put in place. This calls for a concerted effort to fight the pandemic. With all sports activities suspended respective clubs have called on their athletes to take individual physical exercise from their respective homes .
