JOHN KOMBE writes@sunzambianChongwe member of parliament, Japhen Mwakalombe has bemoaned the increasing incidents of drowning in Chongwe.Mr. Mwakalombe made the observation during the burial of three juveniles who drowned in a dam in Chishiko village in Chongwe over the weekend. He described the incident as devastating. He said that the increasing loss of lives due to drowning was worrying and advised the community to counsel children to stop the habit of swimming in dams as this was unhealthy and unsafe. And Mr. Felix Bongo who is the father to one of the deceased, Kelly Bongo, 13 described the date of Novem-ber 14th as shocking. He said that his child went swimming with his two friends when he met his fate. He revealed that the two were cousins. He thanked the lawmaker for the material support during the bereavement. The two related juvenile victims were Darious Zulu, 12 and Isaach Zulu, 12.And Chongwe mayor Geoffrey Chumbwe regretted the incidence and observed that children were resorting to swimming in dams because of the lack of recreational facilities such as swimming pools. He acknowledged that it was difficult to curb the practice without offering a safe alternative.
