More unions welcome plan to build houses for public workers
Zambia Union of Government and Allied Workers (UG) President Muyaywa Kabisa has applauded President Edgar Lungu’s pronouncement of constructing houses for other public service workers. Mr Kabisa said the pronouncement should be operationalized to help address the challenge of accommodation for public service workers especially in rural areas. He noted that the construction of the houses will also help address the housing deficit that the country is still grappling with. Mr Kabisa was speaking in Solwezi yesterday during a meeting for Provincial and District Heads of government Departments which was addressed by the Teaching Service Commission Chairperson Stanely Mhango and Civil Service Commission Vice Chairperson Hillary Chipango. He said the housing units will retain human resource in rural areas which are mostly shunned due to lack of decent accommodation. Mr Kabisa further appealed to Service Commissions to continuously engage with their employees in order to bridge the information gap. “Public service workers must be carriers of information to the public who should be equipped with correct information on various policies,” he stated. Mr Kabisa cited the National Health Insurance Scheme to be among the issues that needs more information flow to reach every public worker especially in the remote areas. -ZANIS The Sun
