Miner dies electrocuted
A miner has died at Ruida Mines in Kasempa district in North-Western Province after being electrocuted bringing the cumulative number to about six people who have died at the mine in less than one year. Kasempa District Commissioner, Phelosopher Chandamali, who confirmed the development to ZANIS yesterday, identified the victim as Allan Mutipula, an assistant electrician at the mine. “While working underground with two others, around 13:30 hours  yesterday, Allan Mutipula the assistant electrician was electrocuted as he was pumping water out of the mine,” Mr Chandamali said. He disclosed that the body of the miner was retrieved yesterday at around 08:00 hours by the combined team of police officers and miners. Mr Chandamali said it was sad  that the mine has recorded yet another death in a space of less than three months. “As a district it is a sad story because this is the sixth if not seventh death that we are recording at the mine between last year August to date,” he said. Mr Chandamali added that the district administration is going to engage the ministry of Mines to see how the situation can be handled. He said that the situation at Ruida Mines is of  serious concern because it is the only mine in the province that is recording deaths. -ZANIS
