KETRA KALUNGA writes@sunzambianA 40-year-old man of Kabwe has committed suicide by hanging after murdering his wife.Paul Mvula Chanda murdered his wife, Miriam Katebe 32, on Wednesday around 04:00 hours and thereafter took his own life.Kelvin Kazembe, Chanda’s brother, told journalists in an interview at the funeral house in Nakoli township that he was informed about the death of the couple by his friend, Dennis Zyambo around 06:00 hours.Mr Kazembe said he later found a text message from the late brother on his phone informing him about the money under the fridge amounting to K1, 241 but could not state in the text what the money was for.And the oldest son of the couple aged 15 years, said he learned of the death of his parents around 06:00 hours when he woke up.“When I woke up my young sister came to me crying and when I asked why she was crying she said our father has died so I went to the bedroom and found him hanging in the roof,“I also saw my mother sitting on the sofa in the sitting room but she was not talking or moving so I moved closer and noticed that she was not breathing either, that is how I rushed outside to inform the neighbours,” he narrated.Central province Commissioner of police, Chola Katanga, who confirmed the death of the couple said the husband was believed to have murdered his wife before committing suicide. Mr Katanga said the wife sustained a deep cut on the forehead and an instrument was believed to have been used in the act. He said the bodies were picked by the police who visited the scene and have been deposited in the Kabwe Central Hospital mortuary awaiting post mortem.
