Man jailed 3 years for wounding another man
Rabecca Banda writes @SunZambian A Lusaka man has been jailed three years for wounding a 63 year old man with a hoe. Appearing at the Lusaka magistrates court before magistrate Felix Kaoma was Joseph  Tembo accused of unlawfully wounding Steven Mwanza. Facts before the court were that on November 31 2020 the complainant heard footsteps while he was in the house during the night. He moved the curtain to check and he saw a man trying to unlock his bicycle which he had left outside. He rushed outside to stop the suspect from stealing the bicycle and it was at that point that  he grabbed a hoe and hit him on the left shoulder. He shouted for help and neighbors assisted him in apprehending Tembo. Magistrate: did you hit the complainant with a hoe? Tembo: yes I hit him. Magistrate: Why did you hit the complainant with a hoe? Tembo: I passed through his yard while going home. He told me there was no road and we exchanged words. I picked his hoe and hit him. I was drunk and didn’t mean to hurt him. Magistrate: are you allowed to wound someone? Tembo: I didn’t know what I was doing. Tembo pleaded for mercy saying he was sorry for his actions. Magistrate Kaoma said  the  complainant is an elderly man and was seriously wounded. The court jailed Tembo three years imprisonment with hard labor.
