Mulenga Musonda writes@sunzambianThe Choma Magistrates Court has convicted a 37 years old Bricklayer to 30 months imprisonment for breaking into the Road Development Agency Storeroom and stealing property worth over K75,000.In this matter Baleni Sibanda and Francis Shakamina stood charged with breaking into a Building and committing a felony therein contrary to the Laws of Zambia.Particulars of the offence are that the two broke into RDA storeroom and stole 8 Wheels, 2 Tyres, 8 Pockets of Cement, 18×20 litres of oil and 2 pairs of Safety Boots all valued at K75,953 the property of the mentioned RDA.The thefts happened between July 17 and August 6 in Choma district of Southern Province.When the matter came up for judgement in respect of Sibanda after his co accused Shakamina pleaded guilty earlier and received a 24 months prison sentence, Senior Resident Magistrate Idah Mupemo was convinced that despite hia denial, Sibanda acted with his friend to commit the the offence.Magistrate Mupemo in convicting Sibanda established that the accused person fully participated in the selling of the loot.She further reminded him that the stolen Safety Boots were found in his house and he could not give a satisfactory answer concerning their presence which raised more questions than answers.Sibanda was sentenced to 30 months imprisonment with hard labour with effect from his date of arrest .He was informed that if he was not satisfied with the ruling he could appeal to the High Court within 14 days.
