A 24-year-old man of Samfya district yesterday appeared in Samfya Magistrate court for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old girl contrary to section 138 of the penal code Cap 87 of the laws of Zambia.
Before Magistrate Fabian Likulunga was Derrick Mweemba 24 of Mwamfuli Village in Chief Kasoma Bangweulu’s chiefdom in Samfya district in Luapula Province.
Facts before the court were that Mweemba on 27 May 2020 at Samfya district had carnal knowledge of the 14-year-old girl who he knew was of unsound mind.
Mweemba was arrested on 3 June, 2020 by Samfya police Officers after the mother to the victim reported the matter to police.
When the matter came up for trial before Magistrate Likulunga yesterday, Mweemba pleaded not guilty of the charge.
Meanwhile Magistrate Likulunga has adjourned the matter to 22 July 2020 for continuation of trial.
