MULENGA MUSONDA writes@sunzambianA 59 years old man shocked the Choma Magistrates Court when he stated that he followed the counsel of a 30 years old youth to break into Churches and loot whatever they could find.In this matter Wafers Simaambo ,30, and Medson Maambo ,59, stood charged with two counts of Breaking into Buildings and committing felonies therein.Particulars of the offence in count one is that the two jointly and whilst acting together on July 22 broke into Anglican Church Office and stole pots, plates, sewing machines, a pick, lolly pops, cooking sticks among other items valued at K9,449.In count two, the duo jointly and whilst acting together in Choma on August 3, broke into Grace Church in Zambia and stole 2 Speakers, Glass Table, Curtains among other valuables all valued at K9,000.When the matter came up for plea before Court, the two accused persons understood the charges read to them through the Court interpreter in the Tonga language they were comfortable with.Simaambo and Maambo both pleaded guilty to the charges and pleaded for lenience after Senior Public Prosecutor Alex Syulikwa dictated the Facts. In mitigation, Magistrate Muyambango Munukayumbwa found it shocking that Maambo was influenced into stealing by Simaambo who is almost twice his age.He sentenced the two to 12 months each in each count totalling to 24 months with hard labour. The sentences to run concurrently.
