Man, 32, arrested for defiling minor

PETER SICHALI writes@SunZambianPOLICE in Chama have arrested a 32 year old Department of National Parks and Wildlife investigations officer for allegedly defiling a 15 year old sister in law, Muchinga Province Commissioner of Police Joel Njase has confirmed.Mr Njase identified the suspect as John Sakala 32 of Mayard Compound in Chama district who is an investigations officer at the Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW).Mr Njase said the victim explained the suspect reportedly dragged her into his bedroom and defiled the victim and promised to give her a K500 the following morning.Mr Njase said the incident happened on Saturday between 21:00 hours and 24:00 hours in new houses compound in Chief Kambombo’s area of Chama district.“According to the victim, she heard her brother in law opening the door. Having seen the victim in the room sleeping, the suspect reportedly dragged her into his bedroom and defiled the victim and promised to give her a K500 the following morning,” Mr Njase said.He said the suspect forcefully and unlawfully defiled the victim.Mr Njase said the victim informed her mother about the illicit incident who reported the matter to the police on behalf of her daughter of the same abode.“Acting on the report, officers from VSU interviewed the victim in connection to the crime. A medical report form was issued to the victim for possible examination,” Mr Njase said.Mr Njase said the officers later summoned the suspect and during the course of the interviews, he expressed ignorance over the matter.The suspect is in police custody and will appear in court soon.
