KETRA KALUNGA writes LUKANGA Water Supply and Sanitation Company (LgWSSC) will act to curb encroachment on its installations which it has been grappling with for some time, managing director, Yorum Sinyangwehas said. Mr Sinyangwe said in Kabwe that the water utility had suffered serious encroachment on its well-fields not only in Kabwe but in the entire Central province. He said the water utility was sourcing funds to fence all its well-fields in the province in order to curb the vice which had negatively affected operations. “Starting next year we want to see how we can mobilize resources to start fencing off some of the installations, some of the installations were actually fenced like in Kapiri, sadly over time you find that same person would go there and even vandalise the fencing itself,” Mr Sinyangwe said. He said the water utility would provide security at all installations to stop the encroachment. Meanwhile, Mr Sinyangwe said LGWSSC had been facing challenges in carrying out repair works on water infrastructure due to the reduced cash flow. He said lack of resources had resulted in challenges in responding to complaints from customers such as pipe repairs among others. “For us to finance operations we assume that we need to collect 100 percent of the income. What has happened is that with the reduced cash flow, we cannot support certain programmes such as repairs and other complaints that may come our way. Mr Sinyangwe however assured that the water utility would strive to attend to some complaints from clients on time despite the financial challenges. The Sun
