LIFESTYLE AUDIT NEEDED – BISHOP MAMBO
By PETER SICHALI THERE is need for lifestyle audit for public office bearers to protect public resources, Bishop John Mambo has said. He said a lifestyle audit will help keep those holding public offices in check. “Like other stakeholders have been saying we need a lifestyle audit so that those in public offices can account for their wealth at the end of their term,” Bishop Mambo said. And Patriots for Economic Progress (PeP) president Sean Tembo said he was disappointed with the continued failure by President Hakainde Hichilema to declare his assets to the public upon ascending to the Presidency. Mr Tembo said President Hichilema has not declared his assets despite the promises he made while in opposition that he will run a transparent and accountable Government whereby all senior public officials including himself will declare their assets upon being sworn into office. He said the declaration of assets to the public by any President is critical because it reveals how much of his own money a President has entered State House with. He said this would help the nation to determine how much money the President accumulated while in State House, at the end of his tenure in 2026. “We expected President Hakainde Hichilema to make a declaration of his assets on 24th August 2021 when he was sworn into office as Zambia’s seventh President, but we have seen that he is quiet so far,” Mr Tembo said.
