Learners are ambassadors of Covid-19 information, says Mwakalombe

JOHN KOMBE writes SCHOOL going children must be equipped with adequate information because they are ambassadors of information on cross cutting issues, including Covid-19, Chongwe Member of Parliament, Japhen Mwakalombe has said. Mr. Mwakalombe made the call when he addressed teachers at Kapeteprimary school in Kapete ward in Chongwe. This was during a visit to the school to appreciate the challenges at the school. He observed that the rising cases of Covid-19 in the country was a sign that people had relaxed on the preventive measures. He said education was a great tool in human development that can be used to equip learners with information which must be taken into the communities.  “You play a critical role in society and as such you must educate the learners on issues of Covid-19. These children must be used as ambassadors of the message on the dangers and prevention of the spread of the pandemic,” he said. He urged school management to ensure that the school upheld the Covid-19 protocols within the school. He said that this must be enhanced to ensure the safety of the learners and teachers. He observed that a Laissez-faire attitude must not be tolerated in schools. Mr. Mwakalombe later promised to engage the Rural Electrification Authority (REA) on the need to expedite the electrification project in the area. He said that the authority had already done the scope of works and would soon connect the area to the National electricity grid. He also pledged to repair the borehole at the school. This was in response to a plea by the teachers who bemoaned the lack of clean water and electricity at the school. He also made the remarks in response to concerns raised by the area councillor Nicholas Phiri who appealed to the government to consider expediting the electrification of the area. The civic leader said that the area and the school in particular needed electricity for subjects such as Computer studies. He also appealed to the MP to help the school repair a borehole at the school. He said that the school was faced with challenges of water due the lack of a functional borehole. The Sun
