Kapiri Mposhi drills boreholes to address water shortage in the area
Kapiri Mposhi District Council has started drilling boreholes at the total cost of K 838,000  to address the shortage of clean and safe drinking water in the rural communities of the district. Council Secretary, Isaac Zimba said the local authority decided to channel over 50 percent of its K 1,6 million 2018 CDF allocation towards sinking of 21 boreholes following evident water shortages in rural communities. Mr Zimba said most rural communities in the district relied on shallow wells and streams which often dry-up in the dry season stating that the boreholes will give these communities reliable access to clean and safe water.  “In line with government’s resolve to increase accessibility to safe drinking water and sanitation facilities for the rural population in Kapiri Mposhi the Council has embarked on sinking 21 boreholes in 14 out of 16 wards,” Mr Zimba said. He said the sinking of the boreholes was clear testimony on how CDF can be put to good use in terms of service provision in the district. The local authority, through the Central Province Tender Committee, has awarded STS Drilling and Explorations Limited the contract to drill the boreholes within a three week contractual period. And a civic leader has commended Kapiri Town Council for embarking on drilling boreholes in rural communities stating that people in rural communities have been sharing water with animals as they depended on streams and shallow wells. Imansa Ward Councilor, Musa Patel said provision of clean and safe water will improve sanitation services and help in addressing the high disease burden in diarrhea diseases in rural communities.
