KAMPYONGO SLAMS ‘PRIMITIVE’ MWALITETA

By SIMON MUNTEMBA OBVIOUS Mwaliteta should not drag PF in his primitive arguments as he campaigns for a position in the new dawn Government, Shiwang’andu Member of Parliament Stephen Kampyongo has said. Mr Mwaliteta, who is UPND Lusaka Province chairperson, had said the gassing, torching of markets and other atrocities that characterised the country in the recent past were done by PF in an effort to blame the UPND. But Mr Kampyongo said the PF would not be dragged into primitive arguments by Mr Mwaliteta. He said the case Mr Mwaliteta was commenting on was still active in court and he could be cited for contempt of court. “The matters are still active and being prosecuted in the court of law. The suspects were arrested and we do not want to start commenting on matters that are before the court of law. “So we don’t want to be dragged in primitive arguments with Mwaliteta so that he can be recognised by his government,” Mr Kampyongo said. He challenged Mr Mwaliteta to report any former minister he thought was involved in the gassing, torching of public places and killings of citizens to police if he had any evidence. “He shouldn’t be expressing his ignorance on how matters are handled,” Mr Kampyongo said. And Lusaka Mayor Chilando Chitangala warned Markets and Bus Stations were no go areas for cadres and that any inference would be met with full force. Ms Chitangala was reacting to recent comments made by Lusaka Province UPND chairperson Obvious Mwaliteta who said that they would set up camps in bus stations and markets to ensure law and order but would not collect any revenue from the traders. The mayor however said the local authority would not entertain lawlessness and that they would follow the directive by the minister of Local Government and Rural Development who indicated that markets would be operated by the council.
