Kafue man denies New Year’s Eve theft
LUCY PHIRI writes A MAN of Kafue has been dragged to court for stealing a plasma TV, power supplier, remote control and small phone all valued at K1,950. Appearing at the Kafue magistrate court before magistrate Moffat Phiri was Manson Chabinga accused of stealing the said items of MalingoBanda Phiri. Witness Malingo Phiri of Kafue’s location area told Magistrate Phiri that on 31 December 2019 around 20:00 hours they locked the house and after some time went to sleep and on 1 January, 2020 in the morning found the door wide open. She said she asked the children only to be told that they did not know who had opened the door. Upon checking around the house they found a plasma TV missing, remote control, power supplier and a small phone all valuable at K1,950. In defence, Chabinga told court he was not the one who stole the said property but his friend who followed him at his place so he could escort him to sale the said items. “I was at home around 17:00hours when my friend came with a laptop bag and some other items and said they were from their bar and asked me if I could escort him to the buyer who could be interested in the things,” Chabinga said. “He asked me if I knew anyone who can buy the items and I took him to Luckson Siwale in Zambia Compound and left the things there. After some weeks I was apprehended saying I broke into someone’s house and took the said properties,” he said. Matter to come up on 22 May for sentencing. The Sun
