LUCY PHIRI writes A 13-YEAR-OLD Juvenile of Kafue has been dragged to court for defiling a three year old girl without lawful authority. This is a matter before magistrate Moffat Phiri in which a juvenile aged 13 was accused of having carnal knowledge on a three year old girl. It is alleged that on June 24, the juvenile did have unlawful knowledge of a girl below the age of sixteen. In testimony, Concilia Mbilo, 28, said she is a married woman with two children, and on a fateful date she left home around 09:00hours and went to the garden with her In-law and left the children in the care of one of her in-laws’ child. At around 14:00 hours she returned home and immediately started cooking. Around 18:00 hours, the child wanted to urinate but she couldn’t when she told her to go urinate. She said the baby continued to move around refusing to urinate. “I then took her wanting to bath her but she refused touching her vagina. I then decided to check her and found the vagina was red and swollen,” she said. She said she asked her who did that to her and she said the juvenile put a “chidoyo” on her vagina. “In the morning I took her to the hospital and after examinations the nurse confirmed the injuries on the vagina and was immediately admitted for treatment,” she said. The matter was then reported to the Victim Support office at the police post and the juvenile was apprehended. Sharon Makafi, of Zambia Police, said on 29 June she took a docket from the office of defilement of Concilia reporting on behalf of her daughter who was defiled by a known person. She interviewed the accused person in Nyanja the language he understands better and he admitted the charge. She said Chinyama admitted the charge in the presence of his father saying he had canal knowledge with the girl in an uncompleted house. She then visited the scene and discovered that the two are neighbours. The matter comes up on 13 July for judgment. The Sun
