JUMBOS DESTROY CROPS ON DISABLED PEOPLE’S FARM
ELEPHANTS have destroyed vegetable gardens at a farm in Livingstone being run by the Zambia Agency of Persons Living with Disabilities. Linda Farm Centre Farm Manager, Kapastu Sunga said for the past three weeks the elephants had been invading the vegetable gardens eating most of the produce. Ms. Sunga explained that the farm had projected to make about K30, 000 by the end of the year from the vegetables that have been destroyed. She said the farm management had engaged the Department of National Parks and Wildlife to send officers to the site but they had been told the department had no transport. Ms. Sunga explained that the residents, most of whom were persons with disabilities, were forced to stay up late to guard the vegetables that have remained in the gardens. She has appealed to well-wishers to help fence the gardens and put up mechanisms that would keep the animals away. Efforts to get a comment from the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Southern Region on the matter have proved futile. – ZNBC.
