By NATION REPORTER SCHOOLS are reopening on Monday nest week as earlier announced because the escalated cases of Covid-19 are likely to persist for a long time, Government has said. Ministry of General Education Permanent Secretary for technical services, Jobbicks Kalumba, said schools would be opened while adhering the Covid-19 preventative guidelines. Dr Kalumba said a gap in the academic system could affect the nation if schools remained closed. This is according to a letter addressed to provincial education officers, colleges of education principals, district education board secretaries and headteachers. Dr Kalumba urged all administrators to ensure that learning institutions strictly reinforce and adhere to preventative guidelines already provided. “This will ensure that learning institutions are safe and well prepared for re-opening,” he said. Dr Kalumba directed learning institutions to create more sessions to allow learners to be spread out in classes. He said different grades could alternate and report on different days except for examination classes where he said learners should report every day.
