Rabecca Banda writes A Lusaka woman has narrated in the magistrates court how her husband was assaulted over a metal basin. This was in a matter where Esau Zulu allegedly assaulted Monday Mukubesa on July 17 2020.Mirriam Tembo, 36, of Chawama said Zulu was her husband and also a taxi driver. She said she was coming from the market when she met a young man sell- ing metal basins. She said she told her friend that she wanted to buy a metal basin (shomeka) to warm water at home. She bought the basin and went home to her husband who was unwell. She said the following day, her husband asked the children to wash the car. She said as the children were washing the car, one went to the house to inform her that a man was saying that she stole a metal basin. She said the man insisted that the metal basin belonged to him. Her husband told her to give the man the basin since he was claiming that it belonged to him.She said she gave the man his basin but he shouted and went to call two of his children. She said he came back with them and one of his children punched her husband on the face. She said the mob separated her husband and she pulled him into the house. She said later that day, they met the man who assaulted her husband while their way to the police station. She said the man threatened to beat her husband again and that there won’t be anyone to rescue him. She said she told the man that her husband was sick and if he beats him he might die. She said her husband did not assault the complainant. The Sun
