‘GUILTY’ COUNCILLORS FACE ARREST
By SANFROSSA MANYINDACOUNCILLORS at the Kitwe and Lusaka city councils involved in illegal land allocation have been handed over to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for further investigations. Some councillors from both councils were identified as having been involved in illegal allocation of land. This was after Local Government Minister, Charles Banda, suspended the two councils in July and constituted an ad hoc committee to investigate the matter. This was pursuant to section 56(1) (b) (a) of the Local Government Act No 2 of 2020.Local Government Permanent Secretary, Ed Chomba, said in an interview yesterday that the matter had been handed over to the ACC.“I can confirm that the case was handed over to the Anti- Corruption Commission and we are waiting for them to complete investigations so that we can pick it up from there,” Dr Chomba said. Dr Chomba warned that Government would not allow illegalities in land allocation and any officers found wanting would be dealt with accordingly.Efforts to get comment from ACC failed by press time.
