GREEN EAGLES SEEK REDEMPTION
By MICHAEL MIYOBA ZAMBIA’s envoys in the 2020/2021 CAF Confederations Cup, Green Eagles and Ndola giants ZESCO United will today face off in a clash of titans with Eagles seeking redemption from a 3-1 thumping by Nkana FC on Sunday. The week 11 MTN/FAZ Super Division fixture at Independence Stadium in Choma promises a lot of sparks as both Eagles and ZESCO United are in desperate need of maximum three points. It is a crucial fixture for both Green Eagles coach Aggrey Chiyangi and ZESCO’s Numba Mumamba as both coaches seek to end the year on a positive note. Eagles are in desperate need of three points which will push them to sixth position on the Super Division table where they occupier 11th position with 11 points while a win for second placed ZESCO United will open a three point lead at the Summit of the league table dominated by Buildcon who are on 18 points. ZESCO United who have been in fine form, recording three victories and one draw in the last for games only need a draw in Choma to dislodge Buildcon FC who missed out on a chance to open a three point lead after recording their second defeat to Forest Rangers on Wednesday. Boosted by the return of creative attacking midfielder Kelvin Kampamba who had sustained an injury and subsequently missed both the Red Arrows and Indeni game, ZESCO are the favorites going into today’s fixture as they are taking on a side that has struggled to impress in the last three matches. Meanwhile, Eagles will want to use the ZESCO United game as a preparatory match for the upcoming CAF assignment against Cameroonian side, Cotonsport Football Club. And a win over ZESCO United will be a big boost for Aggrey Chiyangi’s boys who are preparing for a crucial CAF Confederations Cup fixture. Eagles will host Cottonsport in the CAF Confederations Cup on January 23rd before travelling to Cameroon for the return leg fixture set for January 6th.
