Freedom fighters cry for support
NOEL IYOMBWA writes GOVERNMENT should come up with deliberate policies to ensure that the plight of freedom fighters are looked after, the Zambia National United Freedom Fighters Association has said. Association, chairperson for Central Province Lazarus Mwewa lamented that just like in other countries, the Zambian government should come up with policies that will look after the plight of freedom fighters. Mr. Mwewa lamented that freedom fighters who are fathers of the country especially those in rural areas without anyone to help them despite their role in liberating the country. He said that unlike other groups of people such as women and youths who are being empowered by the government, the same should be extended to freedom fighters. He advised that government should allow freedom fighters to have representation in Parliament and in councils. And Mr. Mwewa has commended President Edgar Lungu for being the only President to recognise freedom fighters. He said that unlike other past Presidents, Mr. Lungu has shown commitment towards helping freedom fighters in the country. Mr. Mwewa however observed that members of parliament are not helping him in seeing to it that freedom fighters are recognised.  He also commended the President for developing the country through infrastructure and other sectors countrywide.
