FAZ LOOKING AFTER MICHO
SUN SPORTS write NATIONAL team coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic has received what is expected from us as an association, Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) vice president Rix Mweemba has said. And FAZ executive committee member, Brenda Kunda says the Andrew Kamanga- led executive is not a failed one, despite being repeatedly accused by some individuals of Zambia’s failure to qualify for two consecutive AFCON’s at senior level. Speaking when he featured on the Millennium Radio sports programme in Lusaka, Mweemba said the association has done everything to make sure that Micho who signed a two year contract as Chipolopolo coach is comfortable despite not getting his full salary.  Mweemba is, however, confident that the Serbian will be getting his full US$25,000 salary as agreed because government which contributes $10000 is almost finalising the approval of his contract. “We haven’t neglected the coach, we are looking after him very well because we made a pledge as FAZ to be contributing $15,000 while government contributes US$10,000. “While I can’t speak on behalf of Government, but we don’t owe Michoanything as FAZ, because we have met all that is required from us and even government, once they finalise, you know they have procedure and rules to follow, once that is done, there will be no area because everything was agreed,” Mweemba said. Meanwhile, Kunda who is the only female member of the FAZ Executive Committee said it is unfair to say that the executive has failed to manage football in Zambia after it implemented various developmental projects which have been successful. And Kunda who is also in charge of women football in Zambia said the association has done more to motivate female footballers who ended up beating the best teams in Africa to qualify for the postponed Olympic Games. Kunda disclosed that the association rewarded the Copper Queens with more than K90,000 after beating Cameroon to qualify for the Olympic games. She said female footballers are now able to invest in land and properties from the incentives they get from FAZ. “We may not be getting the same allowances with the men but we are close and the players are comfortable,” Kunda said. “We have a number of incentives put in place to make sure that the girls are happy and put in their best when they get to play for the national team.” The Sun
