My MICHAEL MIYOBATHE Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) says the number of foreign players in the Super Division will drastically reduce during the 2020/2021 soccer season.FAZ president Andrew Kamanga said the association had several meetings with Super Division clubs who agreed to the introduction of a quota for foreign players to be engaged by a club.Speaking when he featured on CBC TV, Kamanga reaffirmed FAZ’s commitment to support the development of local players who are expected to play for the national team.“We have had a chat with the clubs, at some point we had a club which had almost only foreign players, we sat with clubs and decided that going forward we will start implementing the quota system.“Clubs had commitments with players so in terms of going forward you will see a drastic reduction especially from next season there will be very few foreign players in each team,” Kamanga said.Kamanga encouraged Super Division clubs to tap into lower leagues to help develop upcoming players. He said FAZ is determined to invest in developmental leagues to get as many players as possible to become professional players.Meanwhile, Kamanga has also reaffirmed the associations’ commitment to develop women football.Kamanga said the association amended the FAZ constitution to give more women a chance to contribute to the development of football. He said though women football has recorded a so much improvement with the senior team qualifying for the Olympic Games, FAZ is in the process of introducing a national league for the women who have been compelled to compete in provincial leagues which are active in four provinces only.“We recognise the importance of women and having women in the management of the game.“For the first time we are going to have 10 female representatives from the provinces as representatives as you know our league is active in four provinces but we are moving to add in more provinces so we have prioritised youth development in women football as a corner stone for the 10-year development plan,” Kamanga said.
