FAZ borrowed money without ex-co member’s consent
MUKWIMA CHILALA writes OUTSPOKEN suspended Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Executive committee member Elijah Chileshe refuted revelations in the media that the entire committee had consented to the Association borrowing money from president Andrew Kananga’s company. Chileshe, commonly known as Shenko, said that contrary to revelations in the media, FAZ only informed the executive of the said borrowing of money as an afterthought after it had already been agreed between the Secretariat and the president Kamanga. Chileshe said that when the executive committee members were informed by the general Secretary Ponga about borrowing money from Kamanga’s Enfin solutions company, Chileshe had objected the decision but never got any response. He said that in his letter to the General Secretary on May 24 and copied to all executive committee members, Chileshe queried the Association on the US$38 000 dollars debt from Kananga’s company. He noted that FAZ being a public institution, could not borrow money from an individual with or without interest apart from a registered financial lending institutions. “Contrary to what that media report is saying, in my query, I asked , under which constitutional article did the FAZ exco borrow money from a member’s company or an individual of FAZ exco without the member declaring interest,” Chileshe said. “In his email circulated to FAZ exco members by the former General Secretary ( Ponga Liwewe) he had stated that he had already requested the president (Kamanga) to assist the Association financially without consulting other FAZ excomembers . That only came as an afterthought,” Chileshe wondered why the Association went ahead to borrow the money from a member’s company when records are there that he (Chileshe) had refused to implement the idea . The former FAZ executive committee member noted that the order for the K250 kits for lower Division sides was not urgent to make the Association borrow money to pay the supplier and that it could have waited until money was credited into FAZ’s account . Chileshe wondered how the case involving the borrowed money was any different from that involving expelled members Blackwell Siwale and Richard Kazalaejected for failure to account for K150,000. But according to the said media report on Wednesday, FAZ president Andrew Kamanga denied ever getting money from the Association since taking over leadership of the Association. Chileshe last year reported Kamanga to Woodlands Police post over the US$38,000 he lent FAZ. The Sun
