Fans call for 3 points over unplayed Zanaco, Forest Rangers fixture
MATHEWS NDANDULA writes SUPPORTERS of Zanaco football club are appealing to the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) to award them three points over the fixture between Forest Rangers which was put off over the weekend at Levy Mwanawasa stadium due to Covid-19 cases recorded in the camp. Newly elected Zanaco football club Fans chairman Chrispin Malatasays the team travelled to Ndola from Lusaka in readiness for the game and Forest Rangers should not hide the name of covid-19 because they had their results out early but kept them until the final day of play. “Unfortunately, we were told that some Forest players tested positive for Covid-19 but forest was supposed to produce the results on Thursday which they didn’t do I think as fans you know we are fans as you are saying FAZ rule in our favour because we travelled and so if anything they should pay back our travelling allowances that’s better for us. “Three points for us are definite, because if it was us who didn’t travel because our results for Covid-19 were not yet ready we were going to be punished by FAZ for not showing up. Look the Minister of Sports Emmanuel Mulenga was there waiting to watch the match which means everything was fine,” said Malata. And when asked if fans are planning on a way of finding themselves in the stadium to cheer their teams but under new normal, Malata said it’s better to follow health guidelines. “When it comes to fans entering the stadium to cheer players as much as we want fans to come into the stadium even me I want to watch the matches but this Covid-19 is real so let us keep watching the matches on television and I want the clubs themselves to have a link on their social media as fans where they can be watching the matches I think that would be easy than allowing fans to enter as that will be difficult to control them once they are in the terraces,” he said. Malata, who was elected as Zanaco FC Fans club chairman on Saturday, has pledged to grow the fan base across the country. He said gender in the new executive has been show with three ladies voted in. “I would love to thank the past executive for it’s good work all we need now is to work we need to help the team win in all the games time for election has gone let’s be United we are all Zanaco fans so let’s join hands,” he concluded. Zanaco meet Nkana in Kitwe tomorrow. The Sun
