Family goes in 20 years for assault
By ANDREW MUKOMA THE Livingstone High Court has sentenced four members of the same family to 20 years imprisonment with hard labour for grievously injuring a farmer in Namwala. Richmond Muchaka, Mune Muchaka, and Mbule Muchaka and Jennipher Muchaka are charged with one count of the offence of grievous harm with intent to maim, disfigure or disable. They grievously assaulted Trust Malambo on November 24, 2017 in Namwala district Judge Mwamba Chanda said in the judgment that Mbule, being a juvenile at the time he committed the offence, would serve nine years imprisonment with hard labour. Justice Chanda said the family was a danger to the community and the courts have a duty to protect society. “You have not shown any remorse for your actions, you need to be sent away from the community for a long time. I hereby sentence to 20 years imprisonment with hard labour,” she said. Evidence is that Mr Malambo was on his way to his farm in Kabanga area in Chief Nalubamba’s area when the four family members beat him up.
