EXPECT MORE DEFECTIONS, SAYS CIVIL RIGHTS ACTVIST

By JULIET MAKWAMACIVIL Rights Activist Wesley Miyanda has charged that political parties will soon experience more defections from members who are not happy with the way adoptions are being handled. Mr Miyanda said yesterday,  soon the battle will be uphill for most parties citing that this year’s general elections will be very crucial. He says one of the challenges faced by many  political leaders has to do with the adoption process, which he says has been mainly characterized by a number of negative factors such as favouritism and bribery. “However, I’m deeply disheartened by the fact that certain individuals are appearing in the last minute, flexing or making use of their financial muscles by fishing out money and other items for them to be adopted. This trend has triggered a lot panic and confusion among a number of party members, some of who have vowed to ditch their parties or not to participate in voting,” Mr Miyanda said. He says the political scene will end up witnessing a lot of defections from one party to the other if this trend which he has termed as ugly continued. He says genuine and loyal members of different political parties capable and ready to deliver services in their respective wards will shun their parties once they realise those with money have been picked for respective elective positions. Mr Miyanda has charged that some aspiring candidates have been mobilising for their parties, proving their loyalty with or without any external financial support while others have come to flash money at the last minute for them to be adopted. Mr Miyanda says this trend has triggered a lot panic and confusion among a number of party members, some of who have vowed to ditch their parties or not to participate in voting.
