ELIZABETH PHIRI DUMPED US, KANYAMA PASTORS COMPLAIN BUT MP ASKS IF IT’S ABOUT PUTTING MONEY IN THEIR POCKETS
By NOEL IYOMBWA MAKENI Pastors Fellowship trustee Rev. Bupe Kabondo has complained that Kanyama Member of Parliament Elizabeth Phiri dumped people in the constituency despite making promises of being their servant prior to the 2016 general elections. But when contacted for a comment Kanyama Member of Parliament Elizabeth Phiri insisted that she has delivered development which no other MP has managed to deliver in many years. Speaking at a Pastor’s fellowship on Tuesday, Rev. Kabondo said Ms Phiri who has been Kanyama MP from 2016 had done little compared to the campaign promises she made. Rev. Kabondo, who is also Assemblies of God in Zambia, Makeni Branch presiding minister said the Pastor’s fellowship in the area was disappointed with the area MP. “We have been regarded as useless despite giving her support before she became MP. She used to come here but today when we call Ms Phiri she does not even pick our calls,” Rev. Kabondo said. “Ms Phiri has done nothing here in Kanyama and she has dumped us and went to live somewhere else. She should however remember that whatever goes up must surely come down and we cry to God to give us an MP who will bring sanity in Kanyama Constituency,” added Rev. Kabondo. And Ms Phiri is under fire following her recent remarks in a video that has gone viral where she blamed the underdevelopment in the constituency on the President and Government as a whole, has defended herself and claimed the pastors were being political. Ms Phiri who is also Minister of Gender said last week that she cannot be blamed for lack of development in her constituency because money does not come from her pocket and that all those blaming her were insulting the President and government. And Makeni Pastor’s Fellowship Chairperson Rev. Patson Gondwe said the people of Kanyama were looking forward to having a vibrant and energetic person as their next MP, adding that the Pastors Fellowship had faith God will give them a better leader. But when contacted for a comment Ms. Phiri said her predecessor was also a Patriotic Front member but never delivered compared to what she has done in a few years. Ms. Phiri said if the pastors who are accusing her of abandon the people are siding with a particular aspiring candidate then she will take them on as politicians.
