DR KAUNDA HONOURED
By SENIYA BANDA President Edgar Lungu has declared April 28 a public holiday, in honour of first Republican President Dr Kenneth Kaunda who was born on that day in 1924. And President Lungu has urged family members of the late Dr Kaunda to remain united and uphold his legacy of unity. Meanwhile Dr Kaunda was yesterday put to rest at the presidential burial site, Embassy Park. Speaking during the church service preceding the burial of Dr Kaunda at a church service earlier held at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross President Edgar Lungu says Dr Kaunda’s life will forever be celebrated by generations to come. President Lungu has also urged the Kaunda family to continue living in peace and harmony adding that Dr Kaunda’s story will be told for generations to come. He has also thanked Zambians for heeding to the call to observe social distancing and watch the funeral proceedings from their homes. In attendance during the church service were several notable people who included second Mozambique President Joachim Chisano and opposition leaders include Hakainde Hichilema and  Movement  Democratic Change Felix Mutati. Meanwhile UNIP President Bishop Trevor Mwamba says Dr Kaunda was a great pan Africanist who believed in equitable distribution of the country’s wealth to all citizens. Bishop Mwamba says Dr Kaunda was also remembered for his contribution towards the fight against corruption during his tenure. And Daughter to the Dr Kaunda, Cheswa Silwezya has described her father as peace maker not only at national level but even in homes. Mrs. Silwezya says he was a hero in the family and prioritized each member of the family. She therefore urged the family members  to ensure that they emulate his legacy. And United Church of Zambia Synod Bishop Sydney Sichilima called on Zambians to put God first if the country was to prosper . Bishop Sichilima says there is need for Zambia to emulate Dr Kaunda who put God first in his endeavors .  Meanwhile Former president   Rupiah Banda says Dr Kaunda will be remembered for his love and for uniting the country. Mr Banda has urged  Zambians  to ensure  that they honor Dr Kaunda legacy by maintaining peace .
