THE Ndola City Council has recorded an increase in the number of burial permits issued with June 2021 reporting the highest number of burials.
As at last month, the council issued 383 burial permits, which is the highest number of burial permits in a month for the period January 2020 to June 2021.
Council Public Relations Manager, Rebbecca Mushota, said the 383 burials for June included the 13 unclaimed bodies from the Ndola Teaching Hospital that the local authority buried on June 28.
Ms Mushota said the deaths were as a result of various causes including the Corona virus.
“The month with the second highest number of burials recorded in the same period is February this year, with 373 burials.
“The lowest number of burial permits issued from January 2020 to June 2021 is 230 recorded in November last year,” she said.
Ms Mushota said the 383 burials recorded by the council last month also showed an increase of 126 burials in comparison with the burial permits issued in June last year.
She added that in June 2020, the council issued 257 burial permits, stating that as of July 15 2021, it recorded 137 burials.
She also explained that in July last year, the council issued 277 burial permits.
The city has four cemeteries which are Kawama, Kantolomba, Mitengo and Kansenshi.
