Dambwa residents cry for police post

ANDREW MUKOMA Writes@SunZambian RESIDENTS of Mwandi Township in Dambwa North in Livingstone have appealed for the establishment of a police post to save them from rising criminal activities.Crime is rising particularly in Freedom Ward.The residents charged that crime was on the increase in the area and called for the formation of a neighbourhood watch as the community waited for the construction of a police post.A resident of Mwandi Extension, Mailos Tembo, said the only police presence was far away from the Township and that the residents were finding it difficult to report cases to security authorities.Mr Tembo said in an interview with the Daily Nation that some hard-core criminals had made the area their abode.He said they had made numerous calls for a police post in the past, but all had proved futile hence their appeal to the police command to come to their aid to save them.Another resident, Junior Mweemba, said that the persistent attacks on people at night and burglary and theft cases had led to heightened insecurities among residents.“It will surprise you to know that they [the criminals] even attack people in their homes. The insecurity is now too alarming,” he said.Mr Mweemba said that the area was growing rapidly and crime was on the rise.He said that criminals of all sorts were taking advantage of the lack of police presence in the area to commit crimes.“Thefts, muggings and fighting are common because there is no police presence to deter the criminals.“So as residents of Dambwa North where Mwandi Township belongs too, we request the police command to consider putting up a police post,” he said The Sun
