COVID-19 WON’T STOP US – KAMANGA
By MICHAEL MIYOBAFOOTBALL Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Andrew Kamanga says the association will not simply fold its arms and halt all football activities simply because the world is under a Covid-19 attack.Kamanga said it is not unexpected that planning football matches under the “New Normal”, especially international ones will present challenges. However Kamanga said FAZ will continue to find ways to keep football activities going as the world continue to battle the Covid-19 strain.Kamanga said FAZ will continue to track the Zambia national women’s team in Chile and will ensure the team that is on a 14-day quarantine is flown back home at the earliest possible time.“We have been assured that the team is in good care through our delegation leader Brenda Kunda and the Chilean football and health authorities. The web that our girls have been caught into is part of the downside of the ‘New Normal.’ Nobody sets themselves up for tragic incidences.“The quarantine that is being held in Torremayor Hotel comes to an end on December 15. Let us put our team in our prayers during this trying period,” Kamanga said. The Olympics-bound Copper Queens are in Santiago for Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games preparatory matches. The team played and won 2-1 in an international friendly on November 28 before the second match was called after some Copper Queens players tasted positive to Covid-19.Meanwhile, Kamanga has hailed ZNBC and Tops Star for actualising the broadcast of the FAZ/Eden University National Division One League.Kamanga said the association is happy with the growing number of platforms that fans can catch the Zambian game. And Kamanga said FAZ will launch the under-14, and 16 leagues across the 10 provinces and improve on infrastructure.Speaking after launching the youth leagues in Kabwe, Kamanga said FAZ will now go to Southern Province which has already laid out the structure for youth leagues development.
