POLICE in Kaoma District in Western Province have apprehended a named former Senanga Secondary School teacher for brutalizing marketeers found without face masks on the pretext that he was a Council Police Officer. The named former secondary school teacher has been masquerading as a law enforcement officer under the local authority and took up the role of beating up marketeers for not wearing face masks. Both Police and Kaoma District Commissioner Kennedy Mubanga have confirmed the development to ZANIS in Kaoma this morning.  Mr Mubanga explained that the named former teacher went to New and old markets in Kaoma were he beat up people found without face masks claiming he was a law enforcement officer. Mr. Mubanga disclosed that the alleged police masquerader assaulted a woman at the market who later reported the matter to police and an arrest was conducted. He said the police have however dropped the assault case and released the suspect after they later discovered that the former teacher they had apprehended was mentally ill. Meanwhile Kaoma District Commissioner Kennedy Mubanga has called on the community in Kaoma to learn how to handle people with mental disorder. The District Commissioner has also urged officers of the Zambia Police Service and the Council to help educate the people of Kaoma on the precautions to take in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus. – ZANIS The Sun
