Court orders counselling for teen thief
RABECCA BANDA writes THE Lusaka magistrate’s court has ordered a 17-year-old to receive counselling at PRISSCA for stealing three car doors. Particulars of the offence before magistrate Nsunge Chanda were that the boy stole three car doors valued at K3, 000. The court heard that on January 20 around 08:30 hours, the complainant Steven Phiri went to a garage where he parks his car and noticed three doors were missing. Mr Phiri asked from a nearby metal dealer who told him that a boy was seen carrying the doors. The boy pleaded for mercy saying that he has learnt a lesson and will not steal again. He asked for leniency from the court because he wants to go back to school so he can take care of his mother. His mother said her son has always been a good boy but she was shocked by what he did. She said she believes he has learnt a lesson while in custody and asked the court to teach her son so that he does not steal again Magistrate Chanda told the boy to consider the family he is coming from. “If you love your mother don’t cause problems for her, it’s not fair that she has to use the little profit she makes from her small business to come and see you at court. If you love your mother you will do good things,” she said. The court ordered the boy to receive counselling at PRISSCA for three months. The Sun
