‘Coaching for success’

SUN SPORTS writes THE Football Association of Zambia has commenced the training of goal keeper coaches in Central Province as part of the football development programme targeting National Division One and Super League coaches. The three day training will be conducted in Kabwe and the last batch of goal keeper coaches will be trained in Ndola. The first phase of goalkeepers training concluded in Lusaka last week and training was conducted by the FAZ technical staff including FAZ technical director Lyson Zulu, national team coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic and national team goalkeeper coach Miroslav Stojnic. Stonjic says he expects the training to bolster the drive of clubs in using modern tactics to win games. “You must understand that it is not easy in three days to put my 35 years of experience, but I want to give them the principle of succeeding with very successful systems on how to make a goalkeeper because this is my speciality,” he said. Meanwhile, FAZ President Andrew Kamanga says his executive has placed a high premium on coach education, and following the successful programmes in Lusaka, looked forward to extending football development expertise across the country. Coach education is part of the 10-year strategic plan that has placed grassroots football development at its core. “We hope that this programme will kick-start a long term investment in not only goalkeeping but coaching general. We have a long term plan for coaching that will galvanized by having a coaching school that will be set up with the help of partners in Croatia. We also have a similar agreement with our partners in Morocco,” he said. “We are mindful of the fact that government desires that Zambia ultimately is managed by a local coach. But before we get there we must be willing to invest in the capacity of our local coaches.” The Sun
