CHURCH SALUTES HH FOR FORGIVING RIVALS
PRESIDENT-ELECT, Hakainde Hichilema’s forgiving spirit of his offenders and competitors has elated the church. Bishops Council of Zambia and Evangelical Youth Alliance (EYA) say the step taken by Mr Hichilema is not only Christian but a reflection of true leadership. BCZ general secretary, Abel Kaela, said the Church was pleased to hear the incoming head of state assuring people who victimised and demonisedhim of forgiveness. Bishop Kaela, speaking in an interview urged Mr Hichilema to uphold the Christian declaration of Zambia and National Day of Prayer. He also urged the President-elect to consider completing the House of Prayer as a way of honouring God for his favour upon the nation. “We are happy to know that Mr. Hichilema is not vengeful towards people who victimised him as an opposition leader,” he said. EYA President, Reverend Moses Lungu, said it was reassuring for the Church to hear that the President-elect has no time for retribution. Rev Lungu commended Mr. Hichilema for forgiving all those that wronged him. He said Mr Hichilema’s pledge to focus on improving the erring economy was commendable because Zambians were highly expectant of the UPND to deliver. “The will of the Zambian people is important as shown by the elections results and should be respected so Mr. Hichilema should not forget that fact,” he said.
