CHOMA BUSINESSMAN DENIES STEALING SHOES
By Mulenga Musonda A businessman of Choma has been dragged to the Magistrates Court on allegations that he broke into a storeroom and stole over 400 pairs of shoes and slippers valued at over K20, 000. Henry Hanzala 37, appeared in the Choma Magistrates Court facing one count of Breaking into a Building and Committing a Felony therein contrary to the Laws of Zambia. Allegations are that Hanzala broke into a storeroom and stole 200 ladies shoes, 160 men’s shoes, 90 plastic slippers among other footwear all valued at K23, 900 the property of Simuchimba Mwansa. The alleged break-in is said to have happened between March 12 and 13, 2021 in Choma district. When the matter came up for plea before Resident Magistrate Salie Kanunka, Hanzala vehemently denied the charge but instead accused the Police of confiscating his phone and money at the time of his apprehension in Kalomo district. Magistrate Kanunka recorded a plea of not guilty and assured Hanzala that his complaint against the officer will be looked into. The matter was adjourned to May 3, 2021 for trial and Hanzala was remanded in custody.
