A Senior citizen of Chewe village in Chinsali District in Muchinga Province, who had refused to leave Chinsali General Hospital without a personal wheel chair after his right leg was amputated through a surgical operation, has finally left the hospital after receiving a wheel chair from the Chinsali Lions Club.
Lawrence Muchemwa, a peasant farmer, had his right leg amputated two months ago and told hospital management that he will only leave the hospital upon being given a personal wheel chair.
Mr. Muchemwa told the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) that he told Muchinga Province Permanent Secretary Joyce Bwacha that his movements were hampered following the amputation of his right leg through a surgical operation.
Mr. Muchemwa asked Ms. Bwacha to help in sourcing for a wheel chair and vowed not to leave the hospital until a wheel was found for him.
“I told Muchinga Province Permanent Secretary Joyce Bwacha that my life has completely changed following the amputation of my right leg and I cannot stay without a wheel chair to assist me in movements,” said Mr. Muchemwa.
He said he is happy that two months down the road the Provincial Permanent Secretary through the Chinsali Lions Club, has sourced a brand-new wheel chair for him.
Mr. Muchemwa has since thanked the Chinsali Lions Club for the wonderful gesture.
Chinsali Lions Club members led by the interim president Lion Obert Siankanga presented the wheel chair with an assortment of food stuffs and groceries.
In presenting the wheel chair Lion Siankanga called on members of the public to assist the needy in society.
Lion Siankanga said it’s the duty of the well-to-do in society to assist those who are in need.
Erica Kapongo thanked the Chinsali Lions Club for assisting Mr. Muchemwa with a wheel chair and food stuffs.
Ms. Kapongo said as health workers from Chinsali General Hospital, they were grateful that the wish of Mr. Muchemwa has been honoured and was leaving the hospital as a happy man. “We are grateful to the Chinsali Lions Club for assisting Mr Muchemwa with a wheel chair. May God bless you all for this wonderful gift,” said Ms. Kapongo.
