Chililabombwe crime levels rise
SANFROSSA MANYINDA writes@SunZambianCHILILABOMBWE district has experienced an increase in the number of criminal activities in the past few months.Police have since warned that perpetrators will face the full wrath of the law once caught. Some residents complained to The Sun that most of the criminals lived within the community and worked with people from other districts to terrorise innocent people. One of the residents, Lawrence Kamiji, said that vandalism had also taken toll in the area in which ZESCO cables were not being spared.Mr Kamiji said that the situation was getting scary each and every day as many people, especially the youth had joined in the criminal acts.He said that people were either beaten up, robbed or both especially in the evenings.“We fear for our children especially those who move about in the evening. This is not the Chililabombwe we knew and all we are calling for is peace,” he said. But the police command in the Copperbelt warned that it would not allow the criminal activities to continue.Copperbelt Commissioner of police, Charity Katanga, said the officers would deal with the offenders and their allies once caught.Ms Katanga urged residents to desist from involving in criminal activities but be good citizens. She also appealed to the community to be vigilant and report suspicious persons to the police so that the law could take its course.
