CHICKEN THIEF JAILED
STEPHEN MWEWA writes@SunZambianTHE Kasama Magistrates’ Court has convicted a 39-year-old peasant farmer for theft, after pleading guilty and sentenced him to one month imprisonment with hard labour.This was the case in which Davies Chishimba of Selu Village in Kasama was charged with theft for stealing a village chicken, a cock valued at K150, the property of Davies Chibwe on November 1st 2020.According to the written facts which National Prosecutions Authority or NPA Public Prosecutor Chibengele Mandona presented before the court, indicated that on the material day in the night Chishimba broke into a poultry house and stole the cock which has since been recovered.In mitigation, Chishimba pleaded before the court to exercise maximum leniency for his sentence saying he looks after his aged parents, six children and his three orphaned nephews who would suffer if he is sent to correctional facility.In response when passing the sentence, Resident Magistrate Samson Mumba said he had taken into consideration the convict’s mitigation, but he was quick to state that he has sent Chishimba to correctional facility for reformation purposes for one month with effect from 1st November when he was arrested.Resident Magistrate Mumba sentenced Chishimba.
