By KETRA KALUNGAWORKS at the US$60 million Multi Facility Economic Zone (MFEZ) in Chibombo district have been partially suspected due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus (COVID-19).Central province minister, Sydney Mushanga said in an interview yesterday that works had continued but on a small scale.The Minister said that most workers had been asked to stay home to avert the spread of the COVID-19.Mr Mushanga, who is Bwacha Member of Parliament (MP), said only few workers had remained at the site to maintain the plant and secure the equipment.“Works have continued but on a small scale. Most of the workers have been asked to be home and the number of workers will continue reducing to avoid large numbers,” Mr Mushanga said.He said works would resume to normal as soon as the Coronavirus pandemic was controlled and contained.And Jiangxi Economic Cooperation Zone manager assistant, Bob Fu, said 80 percent of works on the sixth steel plant had been done at the facility which covers a total of about 27,000 square meters.“Currently, we have six steel plants under construction, covering 27000 square meters totally and 80 per cent work has been completed,” Mr Fu said.Meanwhile, the Chinese firm would this week donate materials towards the prevention of COVID-19 to the provincial administration worth K350 000 to help fight the spread of the diseases.
