By SANFROSSA MANYINDA THE Copperbelt University (CBU) is implementing mandatory testing, symptom monitoring and infection prevention as a way of preventing spreading if covid-19. Control protocols for all students and members of staff is also being implemented. This follows the increase in cases in thea second wave of the pandemic. CBU Communications Officer Christabel Malama said the safety of students and employees was paramount. Ms Malama said the uncertainty surrounding the Covid-19 spread and impact demanded that the university’s plans be flexible enough to respond to the disease risk in real time. ” The university is aware of the gravity of the pandemic and has taken a proactive approach to ensure the safety of members of staff and students. ” The university has made arrangements through the provincial public health team to conduct a campus-wide mandatory testing for all students in a bid to understand the prevalence of the virus on campus,” she said. Ms Malama said the action was aimed at ensuring that the university establishes the extent or prevalence of the virus on campus so that appropriate measures could be taken to safeguard the lives of the university community. She called on all students, employees and visitors to the university to adhere to the health guidelines. Ms Malama added that adherance to the testing, symptom monitoring and disease mitigation protocals were essential.
