By SANFROSSA MANYINDATHE United Party for National Development (UPND) has welcomed calls to institute the privatisation commission of enquiry on party president Hakainde Hichilema.Copperbelt provincial chairman Elisha Matambo said that the party agreed with Mr Hichilema’s views that he was ready to face the privatisation commission of enquiry.Mr Matambo however suggested that the commission of enquiry should cover all aspects of public financial processes and not only picking on one person.“If they are really genuinely seeking to know how the privatisation process was carried out by the MMD more than 25 years ago, they would have simply looked at government records and would find the document on how the MMD privatised public companies,” he said.Mr Matambo said that Government would have simply made it public to the general public than what he described as unnecessary comments doing the rounds. He alleged that Government had ulterior motives of targeting at a political opponent, and that it was also trying to divert the attention from a collapsed economy. He hoped that the Commission of Enquiry would not be selective but scrutinise and record proceeds of all the 270 public companies that were privatised during the MMD regime.Mr Matambo advised Government not to incite a peaceful nation against an innocent citizens.
