CASSAVA PROCESSING PLANT COMING
Cassava processing plant coming By STEPHEN MWEWA The Citizen Economic Empowerment Commission (CEEC) in Northern Province has allocated Itabwa Investment Company with a piece of land in its industrial yard in Kasama for construction of a cassava processing plant. Chief Kaputa of Kaputa, who is a pioneer of the company, said the CEEC allocated the company with the piece of land last week. The traditional leader said the installation of the equipment would start in the next two weeks’ time, as the milling equipment had already been procured and would be moved to the site from Lusaka. He said the processing plant would be milling raw cassava into mealie-meal and flour among other products. Chief Kaputa said there was high demand for cassava products from Zambia Breweries, which uses cassava products to brew beer, while a Lusaka based Chinese Company called Zonkai use it for starch production. The traditional leader said once the cassava processing plant would create employment among local people and promote value addition.
