Car seller testifies in engine theft case
JOHN KOMBEwrites@SunZambianA LUSAKA business woman has testified in a matter where her sold car is involved a a theft case before Chongwe magistrate Kabwe Tembo.This is in a matter where Charles Kamwi, 47 is appearing for trial. He is charged with theft contrary to Section 272, Chapter 87 of the laws of Zambia.Particulars of the offence are that the accused is alleged to have stolen a car engine of a Toyota Prado, registration number ABP 506.The engine is said to have been the property of Alex Sinkinde of Lusaka. The accused is alleged to have exchanged the engine after hiring the vehicle from Sinkonde. The offence is said to have been committed on an unknown date, but in 2019.The witness who sold the said vehicle to Alex Sinkonde told court that she sold the vehicle at K50,000 on an unknown date but in 2018.She submitted that she did not mind to check the engine number, but had memorized it as is in the white book. She said stated the engine number was 3RZ 1365687.She told court that she also bought the vehicle from a Simon J. Mwambazi and never changed the ownership even after reselling the vehicle.In cross examination the witness confirmed that she never checked the engine number of the vehicle and only memorized it on the material date before coming to court.The court adjourned the matter to October, 20th for continuation of trial. The accused is on police bond awaiting his next appearance in court. The Sun
