MULENGA MUSONDA writes A 38-YEAR-OLD Businessman has appeared in the ChomaMagistrates Court on allegations of stealing a Firearm that was left unsecured in a vehicle. In this case Bright Sikazwa of Choma’s Mwapona Township is charged with Theft from a Motor Vehicle contrary to sections 276(c) of the Penal Code of the Laws of Zambia. Allegations are that Sikazwa stole One Pistol, External Hard drive, a Laptop, 4 Cell Phones ,Car Keys, a Touch , Laptop Bag and a pair of Gloves all valued at K17, 250 from a Vehicle namely a Mitsubishi Canter bearing registration number ABD 9748 the property of Bobby Wilfred. The alleged theft is said to have occurred on 16th April 2020 in ChomaDistrict of Southern Province. When matter came up for trial before Senior Resident Magistrate IdahMupemo , the accused person applied for an adjournment . His application for adjournment came shortly after the State indicated that they were ready to proceed with trial and had lined up two witnesses to testify against him. Sikazwa told the Court that he was not ready as his defense Counsel was not before Court. Despite the accused’s Lawyer filing in a motion of adjournment late, Magistrate Mupemo granted the application. But she warned Sikazwa that in the event his Counsel never shows up at the next sitting trial will take off. The matter was adjourned to 10 June 2020 for trial The Sun
